    Overview

    Understanding the EPF

Employees' Provident Fund is a mandatory retirement scheme for employees earning basic + DA up to ₹15,000 (voluntary above). Employee contributes 12% of basic + DA; employer matches 12% (of which 8.33% goes to EPS, capped at ₹15,000 basic). Current rate 8.25% p.a. compounded annually — the highest fixed-income sovereign rate available. Contributions qualify under Section 80C; interest is exempt if service ≥5 years at withdrawal.

This calculator projects the EPF corpus at retirement for any starting salary, annual hike, current age and retirement age — factoring in the split between EPF and EPS and the employer's matching contribution.

Withdrawing on job change — resets 5-year clock, may trigger tax.

Not activating UAN / linking Aadhaar — blocks online claims.

Ignoring EPS — separate 8.33% employer share, gives lifetime pension.
