Pricing for FSSAI online is everywhere from ₹399 to ₹15,000 — and most of those numbers hide the real cost. This guide breaks down exactly what you pay the government, what you pay a professional, and what you pay over the lifetime of the licence.

Government fee — fixed by FSSAI

Licence typeGovt. fee per year5-year total
    Basic Registration₹100₹500
    State Licence (small)₹2,000₹10,000
    State Licence (medium)₹3,000₹15,000
    State Licence (manufacturer)₹5,000₹25,000
    Central Licence₹7,500₹37,500

The government fee is non-negotiable and paid directly through the FoSCoS portal at the time of filing. There are no quarterly or monthly payments — only the chosen multi-year fee, paid upfront.

    Quick note

Per-day cost over 5 years: Basic ₹1.4/day, State restaurant ₹7.7/day, Central ₹25/day. Compared to potential ₹5 lakh penalties, FSSAI is the cheapest insurance you'll ever buy for a food business.

Other costs you should budget for

    • Water test report — ₹1,500 to ₹3,000 (manufacturers only).
    • Layout plan by architect — ₹3,000 to ₹10,000 (large manufacturers).
    • Class 3 DSC for company applicants — ₹1,500 to ₹2,000 (valid 2 years).
    • FSMS documentation (Central only) — ₹3,000 to ₹8,000 as a one-time exercise.
    • Display board for outlets — ₹200 to ₹1,000.

    Renewal cost

FSSAI must be renewed every 1–5 years before expiry. Government fee is the same as fresh registration — ₹100/year (Basic), ₹2,000–₹5,000/year (State), ₹7,500/year (Central). Late renewal attracts ₹100/day penalty up to a maximum of one year, after which a fresh application is required.

Penalty cost — what non-compliance really costs

    TriggerPenalty
Operating without FSSAIUp to ₹5,00,000 + 6 months prison
    Late renewal₹100/day
    Misbranded foodUp to ₹3,00,000
    Sub-standard foodUp to ₹5,00,000
    Unsafe food (causing death)Life imprisonment + ₹10,00,000
    Misleading advertisementUp to ₹10,00,000
    Watch out

The opportunity cost of an FSSAI suspension is far higher than the fine — Swiggy / Zomato de-listing alone can cost ₹3–5 lakh of monthly revenue.

How to minimise FSSAI cost legally

    • Always opt for the 5-year licence — saves you the per-year renewal hassle.
    • Bundle FSSAI with GST and trademark registration — Taxpex offers bundled pricing.
    • Use MSME / Udyam registration to qualify for state-level food-processing subsidies.
    • File renewal 60 days before expiry — avoids ₹100/day penalty entirely.
    • Stay in the correct category — over-classification means overpaying for years.

    FAQs

Why do some sites quote ₹399 for FSSAI?

Those are loss-leader prices for Basic Registration only, often with hidden add-ons (₹500 'inspection fee', ₹1,000 'priority filing'). Taxpex's flat ₹1,999 includes everything — no surprises.

Is GST charged on professional fee?

Yes — 18% GST is charged on the Taxpex professional fee. Government fees are pass-through and not taxed.

    Can I pay in instalments?

Government fee must be paid upfront. Taxpex offers a 50/50 split on professional fees for orders above ₹10,000.
