GST Billing Software: 15 Features to Check Before You Buy

A practical checklist of GST billing software features — invoice fields, HSN master, place of supply, e-invoice and e-way bill, credit notes, GSTR-1 data, payments and reports.

    Share
    Quick answer

Good GST billing software produces legally complete invoices, applies the right tax (CGST+SGST or IGST) based on place of supply, stores HSN/SAC in an item master, handles credit notes and gives GSTR-1-ready data. Billing alone is not accounting — check whether purchases, expenses and bank entries are also covered.

    Mandatory invoice contents (Rule 46)

    • Supplier name, address and GSTIN.
    • Consecutive invoice number (max 16 characters) unique for the financial year, and date.
    • Recipient name, address and GSTIN (for registered buyers).
    • HSN/SAC, description, quantity, unit, value and discounts.
    • Tax rate and amount for CGST, SGST/UTGST, IGST and cess.
    • Place of supply with state name for inter-state supplies.
    • Whether tax is payable on reverse charge, and signature.
