HSN Summary in GSTR-1 (Table 12): B2B/B2C Split, Validations & Fixes

How to fill Table 12 HSN-wise summary in GSTR-1: separate B2B and B2C tabs, selecting codes from the dropdown, UQC, value reconciliation with tables 4–10 and common validation errors.

    Share
    Quick answer

Table 12 of GSTR-1 reports outward supplies HSN-wise. The portal now has separate tabs for B2B and B2C supplies, and HSN codes must be selected from the dropdown master rather than typed freely. The taxable value and tax in Table 12 should reconcile with the invoice-level tables of the same return.

    Fields you report

    FieldWhat to enter
HSN/SACCode chosen from the portal list, digits as per turnover
    DescriptionAuto-filled from the master
UQCUnit quantity code, e.g. NOS, KGS, MTR; services use NA
Total quantityQuantity supplied in the period
    Taxable valueValue before GST
    RateApplicable GST rate
IGST / CGST / SGST / CessTax amounts

    Common validation problems

    • HSN value total does not match invoice tables — usually caused by credit notes or advances adjusted inconsistently.
    • Wrong UQC for services — use NA, not NOS.
    • Same HSN reported at multiple rates without reason — check your item master.
    • B2C supplies placed in the B2B tab or vice versa.
    Taxpex tip

If your accounting software tags HSN at item level, Table 12 can be generated from invoices automatically, which keeps it consistent with tables 4–10.

    Monthly reconciliation routine

    1. 1Export the sales register with HSN, quantity and value.
    2. 2Pivot by HSN and rate; separate B2B and B2C.
    3. 3Subtract credit notes and add debit notes for the period.
    4. 4Compare with invoice tables in the GSTR-1 draft before filing.
