TDS has three distinct deadline cycles — monthly deposit, quarterly return and certificate issuance. Missing any one of them triggers interest, late fees or penalties. This page is a complete year-round TDS calendar that you can bookmark and follow. If you would rather hand the quarterly cycle to a CA team, see our TDS and TCS return filing service.

What happens if you miss a deadline?
Late deposit — interest at 1.5% per month from the date of deduction to date of deposit.
Late return — ₹200/day late fee under Section 234E, capped at the TDS amount.
Non-filing or wrong filing — penalty between ₹10,000 and ₹1,00,000 under Section 271H.
Late certificate issuance — ₹100 per day per certificate under Section 272A(2)(g).
Watch out
234E late fees cannot be waived — even one day of delay attracts the full daily fee. The only defence is timely filing.
Year-end critical dates
131 March — last date of the financial year, all TDS for March payable by 30 April.
230 April — March TDS deposit due.
331 May — Q4 return due (24Q/26Q/27Q).
415 June — Form 16 issuance due to employees.
531 July — non-audit ITR due (your deductees rely on this).
FAQs
Can the due date be extended by CBDT?
Yes, but extensions are rare and only granted in exceptional circumstances (e.g. portal outages, natural calamities). Do not plan compliance around hoped-for extensions.
If the due date falls on a Sunday or holiday?
The deadline shifts to the next working day for deposit only. Return filing extensions are not automatic — file on the immediately preceding working day to be safe.
